The Farm

Birdsong Farm Community Garden is a partnership between Richard Lamson and Cornell Cooperative Extension of Delaware County. Our mission is to deliver hands-on gardening education, contribute to local food security, and facilitate social connections. Birdsong’s location on the main road in the middle of the county makes it an ideal place to garden and gather.

The property is nestled along the Delaware River at the foot of Scotch Mountain in the Catskills. The land is the ancestral home to the Kanien'keha:ka people. It is at the Hamden/Delhi in what is known as Fraser, a pocket of the county with a rich history in dairy farming and processing. The current owner, Richard Lamson purchased the property over 25 years ago. The large barn was renovated to include living space for the Lamson family while a new farmhouse was constructed to replace the dilapidated homestead.

The garden plots and surrounding structures were originally intended for equestrian activities. In 2018, the upper vegetable garden was installed. The following year, the greenhouse was completed. The lower flower garden was started in 2020 and completed in 2022. It features a garden shed and classroom building. Most recently, a wing of the horse barn was renovated to house a holiday market.
